Can I take Zepbound with alcohol?

Be extremely careful taking them together although there are no known high-risk interactions. Zepbound (tirzepatide) and alcohol, both drop blood sugar levels, therefore, consider the following situations when it comes to alcohol consumption:

  1. Hypoglycemia Risk: Both Zepbound and alcohol can lower blood sugar levels. Combined together may increase the risk of hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Symptoms of hypoglycemia include dizziness, lightheadedness, shaking, hunger, rapid heartbeat, and confusion. People with diabetes need to monitor their blood sugar levels closely, especially when consuming alcohol.

  2. Liver Function: Since the liver processes both alcohol and many medications, consuming alcohol while on Zepbound may increase the strain on the liver. This is particularly important if there are pre-existing liver conditions.

  3. Effect on Appetite and Blood Sugar Control: Alcohol can affect appetite and dietary choices, which may complicate blood sugar control in people with diabetes.

  4. Alcohol’s Caloric and Carbohydrate Content: Alcoholic beverages contain calories and carbohydrates, which can affect blood sugar levels and overall diabetes management.
